gorgeous.

Thad Cockrell. how is it possible that i just started listening to Thad?...it's beyond me. i can describe this album in one word: gorgeous. Thad's vintage country songwriting melts me....however, this album is interesting in that it crosses over genres a bit...lending itself to pop (and a gospel cover?). now i am very selective when it comes to country...there are few artists i truly love and could listen to every day...a few being Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Mindy Smith, Patty Griffin, etc. but Thad, dear Thad, just made the list...not that he should be proud - i'm just excited to now take part in the beauty, warmth, and grace of this album. here are the lyrics to one of my favorites off the record:

"Pride (Won't Get Us Where We're Going)

See me by the river
Praying over stones
It's hard to let go of the things I think I need
When I lost my vision
May I use your eyes
To see just where it is I need to be

Oh pride won't get us where we're going
It's made a life while standing in the way
Of all the beauty this world has worth knowing
Oh pride won't get us where we're going
Oh pride won't get us where we're going

Truth will keep on shining
Like a morning sun
Brighter than troubled winds can blow
If you lose your vision
You can use my eyes
To see just where it is you need to go

Oh pride won't get us where we're going
It's made a life while standing in the way
Of all the beauty this world has worth knowing
Oh pride won't get us where we're going
Oh pride won't get us where we're going

And oh, we're finally free
To know, the gravity
We can overcome
We can overcome
We can overcome
We can overcome

Pride won't get us where we're going
It's made a life while standing in the way
Of all the beauty this world has worth knowing
Oh pride won't get us where we're going
Oh pride won't get us where we're going
